The 100% Unofficial Art In Speed Park Insiders Guide

Welcome to the Art in Speed Park Art Show Guide

Art In Speed Park sounds like an unusual name for a fair, but for over a quarter of a century it has proven to be an outstanding celebration of the arts. Held August 25 and 26 in Sellersburg, Indiana from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. each day, this fair is free and open to the public. For the protection of the artwork and convenience of the attendees, the event will be pet free. Sellersburg is situated only 10 minutes from Louisville, Kentucky.

This will be a juried art fair, which means it is a competition. There is a specific set of criteria that the judges review against the work presented and prizes are awarded. There promises to be a diversity of media that will include traditional painting and sculpture and possibly more avant garde offerings.

Art In Speed Park Children’s Activities

Art In Speed Park 2018 is kid friendly. This year the playground has been improved and will provide a “Kids Create” tent. Also available is face painting and other interesting art projects for the little ones.

Art In Speed Park Entertainment

Each year Art in Speed Park focuses on art in every component of the Fair. This creative element is extended to the live entertainment scheduled during the event. Among the featured performers are Troubadours of Divine Bliss, Robbie Bartlett and Tyrone Cotton as a strolling musician. Art In Speed Park Food and Beverages

Of course there will be food! The final list of kiosks and food trucks are still being finalized but we do know that Graeter’s Ice Cream will be one of the highlights of the culinary offerings. There will be a wide variety of food and non-alcoholic beverages available for purchase. Plus, Huber’s Orchard and Winery together with Donum Dei Brewery will offer adult beverages in the wine and craft beer garden.

Right Next Door! Sellersburg and Louisville

With Louisville, Kentucky, only a short drive south on Interstate 65, you may want to take advantage of some of the sights there. Most famous for Churchill Downs, the home of the Kentucky Derby, there, of course, is a museum dedicated to the event. Louisville is also the childhood home to Muhammad Ali, Olympic Gold Medalist and three-time heavyweight World Champion. If you are interested in this unique person, there are two sites, Childhood Home Museum and Muhammad Ali Center that will give you a glimpse of history.

The Conrad-Caldwell House is a 19th century home restored to its Edwardian glory. Now a museum, it sits in Old Louisville on St. James Court.

For a more contemporary experience, try the 21c Museum Hotel. Inside the 21c Museum Hotel, this downtown gallery is free and open 24 hours a day. The artwork is ever changing and reflects modern trends from across the world.

There are a number of parks throughout the city including the Iroquois and Cherokee parks. Part of the Frederick Law Olmsted system, the famous landscape architect lends his stroke to Louisville as an influence in the conservation movement.
